How to use the interactive sliders

2 min read

Summary

  • The sidebar sliders (Solo and Duo plans) let you adjust retirement age, spending, contributions, fees, and growth assumptions and see the projection update instantly.
  • Changes are temporary unless you explicitly save them.
  • This is the fastest way to answer "what if" questions without editing your plan details.

Steps

1. Open the sidebar by clicking the slider icon on the dashboard (Solo and Duo plans).

2. Drag any slider — retirement age, spending, contributions, fees, or growth assumptions. The projection updates instantly as you move it.

3. Use this to explore "what if" questions: What if I retire two years later? What if I spend £2,000 less per year? What if my fees drop by 0.2%?

4. Slider changes are temporary explorations. To make them permanent, save your plan from the dashboard menu.

Example scenarios

"What if I retire two years later?"

Drag the retirement age slider up by two years. Plan Confidence and median wealth usually rise — two extra years of contributions and two fewer years of withdrawals. Note that the slider doesn't adjust state pension or DB pension amounts either way — if your real scheme would actuarially reduce a DB pension for taking it earlier, factor that in yourself; the slider result will otherwise look more optimistic than reality at an earlier retirement age.

"What if my platform fees were lower?"

Reduce the fee slider by 0.2-0.3%. The gap is usually small year-to-year but compounds noticeably over a multi-decade plan — one of the clearest ways to see why fee drag matters.

What stays the same

Slider changes only ever affect the plan currently open. Accounts, life events, DB pensions and properties aren't touched by the sliders — see How to compare different plans if you want to change those instead.

Frequently asked questions

Are slider changes saved automatically?
No — slider changes are temporary explorations. The projection updates instantly as you drag, but nothing is saved to your plan unless you save it from the dashboard menu.
Which plans have the interactive sidebar?
Solo and Duo plans. The Free plan shows the sidebar too, but it's locked — dragging a slider does nothing until you upgrade.
