How to run your first projection

2 min read

Summary

  • Your first projection appears automatically once onboarding is complete — there's no separate "run simulation" step.
  • The chart shows a median line and probability bands, plus a headline Plan Confidence percentage.
  • You can view results in Real (today's money) or Nominal (future pounds) terms.

Steps

1. Complete the onboarding wizard — enter your age, retirement age, pension and ISA balances, contributions, and target spending.

2. Tick the disclaimer checkbox and hit "Launch Dashboard" to land on your dashboard. The projection chart shows your wealth over time with a median line and probability bands.

3. Check the Plan Confidence number at the top — this tells you in what percentage of simulations your money lasted the full plan.

4. Toggle between Real (today's purchasing power) and Nominal (future pound amounts) using the switch in the header to see both perspectives.

Example scenarios

"My Plan Confidence looks low — now what?"

Open the dashboard sidebar and adjust the retirement age, spending, or contribution sliders one at a time. Retiring later, spending less, or contributing more each tend to raise your Plan Confidence — see How to use the interactive sliders for the full walkthrough.

"I want to see how inflation affects my numbers"

Switch the header toggle from Real to Nominal. The chart's wealth figures jump up noticeably — that's inflation showing through, not extra growth. Real terms strip that back out so you can judge purchasing power directly.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to finish onboarding before I see a projection?
Yes — the projection chart is generated from the age, retirement age, balances, contributions, and spending you enter during onboarding. It appears as soon as you tick the disclaimer checkbox and hit "Launch Dashboard".
What's the difference between Real and Nominal?
Nominal shows future pound amounts as they'll appear on a statement. Real adjusts everything back to today's purchasing power. Toggle between them using the switch in the dashboard header.
